So what you are saying is it is a bare-minimum just-works kernel?

And when you unlock the features it will be smoother faster, etc?
Just curious, what do you think the effects on battery life and performance will be?

Essentially what you are running on a stock rom is a very basic kernel compared to other Tegra 2 Devices. Essentially NVidia releases kernel code for their SoC (system on chip) hardware to all manufacturers. It's up to them to build a board with a set of certain devices, then modify the kernel to build the correct drivers and configuration to make the board work.

So Toshiba decided to put a minimal effort beyond getting the devices to boot Android and provide certain hardware acceleration for media content.

Certain features may unlock performance enhancements, like with getting hardware overlay last night for project butter. Pio_masaki added features for additional processor governor settings, overclocking and support for additional schedulers. Which are accessories which can tweak the board for performance when necessary or for battery saving.

Project butter uses the GPU cores on the Tegra 2 chip to render the screen instead of using the cpu or a non hardware framebuffer. The results are essentially hardware screen compositing which is what mainstream desktop operating systems like OS X use, but on a much simpler scale, it drastically increases the refresh rate of the UI and makes the little transitions and alpha effects run smoothly, it also is easier on the battery because the GPU cores don't require as much power to render graphics as the CPU cores do.

I'm not trying to be long winded but it's not just about performance it's about the experience of the tablet. And sadly it just seems that Toshiba didn't want to put in the extra effort. The hardware in the Thrive is excellent the support for it is crap.
Running CM10 - Special thanks to the other devs.

just a quick note to all the devs on the project:
God bless you for your extreme efforts in building this ROM. May your circuits not fail, and your scripts remain intact.
This is slowly becoming the build that eats thrives for breakfast.

Like my mom always told me:
"If you insist on messing around with ROMS you barely know, for God's sake, make sure you use protection."

Aye, forgot my protection and look what happened! I won't be getting much done, my son is finally asleep and I need to catch up on mine from this morning, and do it all again tomorrow. I probably won't be doing much until Sunday or Monday, but I'll keep up in irc when I can and drizzle on whatever awesome sauce they bake up for us.

Side note, what little work I did manage today fixed headphone audio.

Sweet, well hopefully when you wake up I'll have the kernel sorted out a bit more. When I do finally sleep I might be out for a day.

I just tried the B8 and B9 versions on my AUS at100 and they both get stuck at the cynogenmod boot screen.

The first boot takes awhile. If you got that far into the boot you should be OK.

Eureka!! I added some goodies to the kernel as far as the board support goes, fixed drm again which was a seperate issue. And bingo hw accelerated video works again and so does camera.

Working with tybar to push my changes into his github.

I think jbettcher has discovered the coder's versions of easter eggs...

Is it just stuff disabled in the config, or is it actually commented out/ignored?
