Sorry, I got distracted last night and forgot all about this. I can try myself tonight, if it'll help with your decision.

No luck at all for me. I used the dock with both HDMI and audio out connected. It always went through the HDMI to the TV. Muting the TV had no effect (well, other than muting the audio, lol). Nor did even turning off the TV. I didn't see any way to disable HDMI audio on my TV, but there was a setting like "Audio through TV Speakers or Sound System", but switching that again just muted the audio. I could only get through my computer speakers by unhooking the HDMI.

I was briefly excited, but turns out there is just a weird bug in there. When I switch inputs on the TV, and when I first switch to the HDMI input, it will briefly play audio via the computer speakers (and even, at a "normal" volume). But after a second it goes back to the TV. I guess this starts some kind of signal to the Thrive to set up the HD out, and while it's doing that it plays via the audio out.

Maybe other TVs and/or a projector will be different. But it's a no go for me.

Just did some research on this and it seems it cannot be done. The audio signals pass along on the same connections as the video. So far there are no splitters made that can do it.

Yes, I have a line from the TV to the speakers. And I have a working setup, except when I don't want the TV on (listening to music or podcasts), when I have to unplug the HDMI from the Thrive. Not ideal, but it works.

Doesn't do much for the OP...unless there's a line out on the projector.

I've been away from this thread for a while but it would appear that no satisfactory solution has been found to the OP's issue(s). So, what about something like this? I suggested looking through MonoPrice's offerings earlier however the I decided to take a closer look myself today.

The HDMI goes in, the video comes out as well as the audio but through separate ports...

$40.00 - For only $34.93 each when QTY 50+ purchased - HDMI to VGA & R/L Stereo Audio Converter | HDMI to Component (YPbPr) / VGA Converters

If 3.5 mm jack audio support is desired then combine it with this?

    $0.76 - For only $0.65 each when QTY 50+ purchased - 6ft 3.5mm Stereo Plug/2 RCA Plug Cable - Black | 3.5mm & RCA Audio Cables
