I figured out how to permannently swap the two buttons (on a rooted tablet), and I can give you directions if you'd like.. but then when your device is vertical they'll be backwards.. let me know if you want to know how!

First, your Thrive must be rooted.

Perform these changes at your own risk! You are editing system files, and could possibly break something!

Overall this isn't a dangerous hack as far as I know, but still be careful!

I use ES File Explorer, but you can probably do this with any root file manager. Using ES, go to /system/usr/keylayout and press and hold "gpio-keys.kl" until the menu pops up. Scroll down and select Properties. Change the permissions to rw-rw-rw-. Open the file with your favorite text editor, and notice the bottom two lines are:

key 115 VOLUME_UP WAKE_DROPPED
key 114 VOLUME_DOWN WAKE_DROPPED

Swap the 114 and 115 numbers to the opposite lines, so it reads:

key 114 VOLUME_UP WAKE_DROPPED
key 115 VOLUME_DOWN WAKE_DROPPED

Save the file and reboot your device, and your buttons are now swapped.

To undo it, just reverse these directions.

Sorry for the very late reply! Yes, I believe that this will remap everything that happens when the android OS is running. I do NOT belivev that it will affect the power & volume+ to get into CWM.

icedventimocha: I'm really not sure. I don't know what volume button seek is.. but as long as you make a backup of the file, I'd say feel free to tinker and see what you can do. That's how I found the remapping.
