Unannounced Toshiba Quad-Core 7.7" Tablet Shows Up at MWC

For some reason, Toshiba decided to be sneaky about a new quad-core screamer of a tablet they are getting ready to launch. It's a 7.7-inch device with a NVIDIA Tegra 3 Quad-Core processor powering it. The device is called the AT270, and is ultra-thin and blazingly fast! In fact, the guys from SlashGear said it was the thinnest in the show and left them thoroughly impressed. Here's a list of its specs:
    • Tegra 3 quad-core
    • 1GB of RAM
    • 16-64GB of internal storage.
    • Rear facing camera and micro-SD slots
    • Barely thicker than the 3.5mm headphone jack
    • 1280 x 800 AMOLED HD 7.7″ screen - extremely vivid and crisp images
Right now, this one is just a prototype, but looks to be something Toshiba plans to bring to market at some point... hopefully soon.

with rumor flying around about Google releasing a tablet this year, I don't know why most of them even bother. It's like gee, do I buy Google's tablet and get my updates right away, or do I spend the money on another tablet instead and get jacked around for months. Decisions, decisions....

One won't get them 'right away', just sooner. And even then not totally debugged, but sooner.
Found my signature file, but it appears to be empty...

The only big problem is Google has another company build the devices for them, even if it is to Google's specification. So, each "halo" device that is a Google phone or tablet will have certain compromises. This tablet looks good & with the resolution being the same but in a smaller physical space will push the pixels closer & make it look better than the current Thrive 10". The down side; no removable battery. I also didn't see a mini-HDMI out port.

If Toshiba would only update the new 10in Excite with similar more impressive specs, maybe it would start selling.

I can't see making any of my cases for the Excite, as I have not found any evidence of it selling well.

Does anyone have any helpful references to the success of the Excite, either way?

    Thanks,

Bob, this particular prototype at least has some chance of selling. But, they have to get it into production...I mean right now. If Toshiba waits too long, there will be more Tegra 3 tablets with ICS on the market, & this will just get lost in the shuffle. Plus, as Toshiba has shown us, their pricing structure is another Achilles heel.
