    You can't there from here-Tethering question(s)

Have the Toshiba Thrive AT105/8GB w/Android version 4.0.4 and Kernel Version: 2.6.39.4-g2388484 and a Motorola Atrix HD MB886 with System version 98.4.20.MB886.ATT.en.US and Android 4.1.1.

Would like to be able to "tether" for occasional info transfers between the two but cannot get anything to connect to do this without paying the "tethering" fee at AT&T. Don't want to do the internet with them connected, just want to transfer files. Installed PDAnet Tablet on both but it still calls for FoxFi and AT&T won't allow that to be installed on phone. Can't figure out how to get into PDAnet to make the first choice called for on setting the "server", etc.

Does anybody know of a way around this so I can view and swap files between the Thrive and the phone?

You're dealing with a "newb" on this so any "instructions" need to be done along the line of "press the on button to turn on the "device"".

    Thanks for any assists.

    Check out WiFi File Explorer.
Found my signature file, but it appears to be empty...

Es file manager can also do Bluetooth file transfers, another method to consider.

Thanks to you too for quick reply.

Checked it out online and it looks workable. Same questions as to other response:
    1. Do I put it on both? (Phone & Tablet)
    2. If not both, which one?

It'll go on both the phone and tablet. As far as I know no root will be needed though it can use root features as well should you need them.

Thanks for the quick reply. Will try it and post back here what the results are. Don't want to "root" on a 3 day old phone. Kind of like having the replacement ability if it fries itself!

    EDIT: RE: Es file manager

Installed on both and still can't get them to talk to each other. Tried the various connections like WiFI and LAN but they didn't see each other. Did some research and got the impression it works much better if you use a third source, like Cloud, to exchange info. Doesn't work too well when you are in a place where there is no service and you want to get some things prepped for later use.

I'll try the WiFi File Explorer and see if that one works. Report to follow.

ES Explore would need for you to pair the 2 devices via Bluetooth. WiFi Explorer goes on the device that had the files. When launched it will display URL that is used in the other device's browser.

YAHOOOOO!!!!! Played around a bit, not real fast on computer stuff, but finally got the Bluetooth transfer to work between the AtrixHD and the Thrive tablet!!!.

I'll play with it a little more, write down all of the steps taken to get from one to the other then post them back here for others new to doing this that can't find simple directions either.

Thanks for the assists along the way.
