"Fox fi" allows any Android phone (no root required) to act as a wifi hotspot!

I have a rooted Samsung Precedent (Walmart Straight Talk pre-paid - unlimited $45.00 + tax per month) with Android Tether but it stopped working. Since the friend who rooted the phone for me and installed Android Tether is no longer available to help fix the often quirky Android Tether I tried "Fox Fi".

It worked perfectly (and since it doesn't require root, no superuser permission needed)!

I'm sold. Installed it, rebooted (to get a fresh start) and it worked perfectly and can not be detected by your service provider!

There are some phone it doesn't work with so check the description in Google Play (market)!

    AND its free!

Well worth a try (especially if you uncomfortable rooting your phone).

    Al

You might want to watch your bill. That not detected part may not last long.

Well, I only use my cell phone two or three times a month. I'm sure I don't use more then 100 MB a month. From reviews it appears that no one (who have unlimited plans) is being penalized by their carriers.

Works great on my unrooted Galaxy Nexus and Thrive when I need internet in small doses.

I have had good success with foxfi so far on a Droid RAZR, Bionic, and Droid 2 Global. So can't complain here. It's fast, and works with 3G and 4G on Verizon.

Most of my android devices are rooted; however, we have one that is not. What can I say, my husband won't let me root it.
Foxfi was the only way I could run infrastructure wifi from my rooted Optimus V to the unrooted Coby Kyros 8024. Sometimes the Coby needs a re-BOOT to pick up. Oh, BTW, he has no trouble whatsoever with the idea of trying to stream moments of sporting events from the phone while on the road.

I tried it on an HTC Inspire today. The wifi doesn't work on HTC. I tried the Bluetooth connection and viola! It worked like a charm. I won't use it a lot, but every now and again it will be nice to be able to work on the larger surface of my Thrive when I am in the field rather than struggling on the smart phone. Thanks for the info!

Foxfi isn't available for my HTC Evo 4G in the Play Store. The only thing available is something called FFAddon. I'd really like to be able to bluetooth tether my Evo to my Thrive. Has anyone had any success with that?
