    Thrive Not Starting

I just received my 16g thrive from J&R. I have it plugged in. When I start it, I get the haptic feedback, the power light comes on, the screen flashes then goes dark. The power light stays on, but nothing appears on the screen. After a while, the power light starts to flash like it's gone to sleep.

I've tried to remove the battery to reset it but that didn't do anything. There appears to be a backup battery that may have kept it from resetting.

Is it defective or is there anything I can try?

    Thanks!

I'd let it charge for a while then try again

Sounds likely....maybe look at the contacts on the battery and see if they need cleaning.....

Just curious how long you charged it? I've heard some weird reports with other tabs where if you charge overnight, it can ruin the battery. (Idiotic design decision, but hoping it's not prevalent.)

It does sound like a bad unit, but it might be worth calling Toshiba support before sending the unit back for exchange.

The battery light went from amber to white in about 20 minutes. I just got delivery of the unit about an hour ago.

Since the battery was able to charge I doubt if it's the battery contacts, but I'll check.

    Thanks.

Sounds like a defective unit have you tried to hook it up via HDMI to a tv and see if you get a picture?

Have you tried to pull the battery and power it on with the charger plugged in?

You can do a hard reset, which involves holding the volume up button simultaneously with the power button. You will get to a menu with three options, use the second item. You use the volume button up or down to navigate once you are the item you want push the power button to select. Once you select the middle item you will have a menu. One of which is the hard reset. Try to hard reset if that does not do the job. Start the process again but select the third item in the menu. Under this you will see an item called user data. By selecting that you get rid of information that blocks start up. Restart the thrive and it will work
