    Newby can't download apps

This has probably been posted 100 times, but I can't find it. I can't install anything from the App Market (or Toshiba App Place for that matter). I press the FREE button, for example and I get the Awaiting Install. If I go to My Apps at this point, I see the Install button. I press it. It just clocks. (Is it normal for Google Maps update to ALWAYS be in the My Apps, clocking forever?) I've left the browser open to the Market. I've tried closing it. I've created an account at the Apps Market. I've turned on the "Unknown apps" in Settings/applications.

I don't know what else to do.

Make sure your router has port 5228 open, for both TCP and UDP traffic (TCP alone wont work)
Android market uses this port to download apps..
It should normally be an open port on most routers unless someone changed router settings
or for some other reason the firewall blocks it or it is forwarded to another device.

I've gone through every setting I can find in my router setup. No mention of port blocking. (port forwarding, but that seems limited to https and ipsec)
Does the Toshiba Service station use that same port? I got my Android update with no problem.

Try going into your settings>applications and clear the cache and data. That will make you enter your google name and password again. It could be something locked up and a fresh go might clear it.

BobJ, okay, after poking around inside the router for an hour, I finally decided to just turn the firewall off.
Everything on my wish list downloaded the the Thrive.
Although not the best work-around, I can live with it for now.
(Yes, I turned the firewall back on once I had downloaded all the goodies I wanted.)
    Thanks so much.

give me your router make and model and I'll give you detailed instructions how to open that port, or forward it to your thrive, so you dont have to turn your firewall off
