Is the 30 pin connector on the bottom of the thrive the same as the iPad, iPod Touch, etc.?

Don't think it would be compatible. It is designed for the docking station.

No, it is not the same. I think you will find they are different from device to device. If they were the same, we would have a large generic market making docks and such for all of the devices.

Okay thanks, I was trying to see if I could use the iPod transfer cable once I get my thrive, but I guess not.

But, do you know if there are any places to get a cable like that for the thrive?

There is a full size usb port on the side of the thrive.
Why would you need a docking cable to transfer (me thinking you are a long time apple user)

Just accept that you may likely have leave most (if not all) your protected media behind and then your Thrive experience will be better for it. Apple doesn't want people to leave it's iTunes ecosystem. It especially doesn't want to see it's users defect to competing hardware either.

Much (if not all) purchased iTunes content is purposely made to be compatible with Apple hardware alone. For music, at least you will find music vendors like Amazon to be less expensive occasionally while supporting many hardware platforms rather than offering proprietary media files for just one.

I was just trying to make a makeshift dock, but I guess I can't because the thrive doesn't have a separate cable.

You don't need dock for clock, just get a stand for thrive and enable stay awake option in settings >applications > dev and plug in charger then run the clock app and leave it it will switch to a screensaver type clock after a time
