Toshiba Thrive Stuck on Splash Screen

    Model: Toshiba Thrive AT105-T1016

    Hello!

Unfortunately, I am out of ideas on how to approach this. I have attempted to reset the tablet to factory defaults, cleared the cache, but have not been successful into bringing this tablet back to life. I have also taken it apart to reseat the eMMC but that did not help. And somewhere in between the two I have attempted to take both batteries out at least a couple times.

So... I guess my last resort is to ask for help to reflash it. What steps are required to reflash it?

This tablet has never been rooted. It only has the stock ROM that came with it out-of-the-box.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

    P.S.
I followed the instructions on this thread:

READ FIRST If your Thrive is stuck at the fireworks screen or Bootloops

And have sent a PM todalepl and pio_masaki but I have not received a response from either of them. Is there an alternate route I can take?

    Thanks,

    Eric

Sorry to hear that, Eric, and Welcome....

You've read the thread (and the dire warnings).
Other than paying Toshiba a lot of $$ to fix an "ancient" device (if they will), you've done everything that you can possibly do.

Pio_Masaki and dalepl do have "real lives" and do the service out of their own generosity, so patience is the key.

If you hear nothing back from them in 72 hours, resend the PMs. Things can get missed in a crowded inbox. As you had just joined the forum on 8/19, you couldn't have sent the PMs until then. Allow another day or so.

And, of course, the critical and obligatory warning:

***WARNING.... WARNING.... WARNING... WARNING... WARNING! ***

Occasionally, there are posts by people who claim to be able to "reflash" non-functional Thrives.
For the protection of our forum members, any such messages are deleted immediately. A second post is rewarded with an immediate, permanent ban -- and I urge that no one think to test our Moderators on this.
Recently, a few individuals have done exactly that and are now on the outside looking in.

    The reasons are simple:

First - TRUST. The method used by these would-be reflashers involves full remote access to your PC, with file transfers. Are you willing to turn your computer over to a brand-new forum user who has no reputation, who might infect your computer with a virus or other malware? Even if you think there are no passwords and credit card numbers to steal, malware can easily turn your PC into a "zombie" that attempts to infect other computers across the Internet and on your home network.

Second - Even if the person offering has no malicious intent, the reflash tool is dangerously powerful.
One mistake can irrevocably "brick" a Thrive, which even Toshiba can't undo without expensive hardware repair.
Are you willing to trust your Thrive to someone who may have never used the tool before, or has no responsibility for the result?

So, if, after trying the above procedures, your Thrive appears to need reflashing, please post on the forums first.

Maybe someone can help fix it without reflashing. If it turns out a reflash is needed, send a PM to dalepl and pio_masaki - nobody else.
They are recognized Developers on this forum and are trusted, professional and helpful. They have the knowledge, experience and the proper tools to do it correctly. NOBODY ELSE can make that claim.

You may be contacted via PM by another member offering "help".
They are not sanctioned by the forum owners or Staff, and DO NOT possess the knowledge, experience, trustworthiness, or, possibly, the proper tools needed, to fix the issue.
They might, in fact, do more harm than good, and the forum is in no way responsible for any damage done by them.
You could easily end up with a non-recoverable $400 brick.

If you are approached by ANY OTHER MEMBER offering this service please contact the Moderation Team IMMEDIATELY so we can take appropriate action - and before the damage is done.

Welcome, Eric Hang in there. I know waiting is hard, but Pio has mentioned that he goes through his pm'd requests for reflashes chronologically, so when it's your turn, he'll get to you.
    Good luck

Also note that a reflash won't fix a hardware issue (a bad emmc).
You can occasionally find them on eBay for $24-90.http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from...mory+&_sacat=0
Great deals right now..... 32G for $60...

Well, no luck on a response yet. I've been looking for instructions to reflash it myself but no go. Looks like it's going to stay a paperweight.

    Until contacted, I'm afraid so....
    Send another PM later today.
And, again, heed the warning above.

DalePL is in the process of making the re-flash tool available to all, so you'll soon be able to do this on your own (if you dare)!. If your device is unusable, you don't have much to lose, but this tool can easily make your Thrive a permanent brick, so it must be used with extreme caution.

    See this thread.

Thank you! I have a computer science degree, but I don't specialize is hardware (more notably tablets). I only know the basics.

I will give this a try. Much appreciated!
