I have a pre-teen who has gotten in trouble with her tablet. Is there an easy way to recover deleted files and history items? Thanks in advance for any help.

As far as I know only for rooted devices: Undelete for Root Users
Found my signature file, but it appears to be empty...
I get the same problem, once I have follow this guide to recover the deleted files but I cannot access my sd card internal I just get back my books. They said most of the data recovery software can only support the rooted devices. But how to root it? when root it, will i loss all my data on it?
Using Dalepl's Universal Flash Tool.
[Tool] DaleNet Thrive Univeral Easy Flash Tool
And, yes, all data is erased to out-of-box state.

Not quite true. Using the Easy Flash Tool to root a ROM that is supported, the user data is not erased. Only when flashing a ROM does the data get erased.
Having said that, there is no guarantee that using the tool may not overwrite files the user is attempting to recover.

I can only speak from my own experience: following the directions the the tool did, in fact, erase (or overwrite) my data. It was saved out to SD, so no biggie.
Granted, I did use the version available as of late 2011/early 2012, so there may be a difference. Better to be safe, either way.
So far as overwriting the deleted data: IDK.

You can attach the thrive to PC via USB and use PhotoRec. Is a bit daunting at first but stick with it - the tutorials are amazingly comprehensive and simple to follow
32gb Thrive [rooted] running BB Shinka
ZTE Blade [rooted] running SS7
Motorola Droid X [rooted] running MIUI
Life is better now that being a flasher doesn't involve public order infractions
My experience with rooted, undelete did recover the files, but the meta-data was wrong. You could see thumbnails, but could not open them?
