    Thrive still freezes after update

Hey, guys, last time my thrive froze up, I had to send it to Toshiba on my own dime. I updated the OS, but now it's freezing up on boot again, just splash screen, splash screen..... is there any way to get my videos off the memory before a wipe, or some way to fix it, without wiping it or sending it to toshiba??

If you are stock and do not have fastboot, then no. Sorry.

It means that if you boot into recovery (press/hold both power & vol+) and do not have the Fastboot icon, then there is nothing that can be done. Fastboot was deleted in HC 3.2, so if you are stock with the latest updates and have not rooted your tablet, chances are you no longer have Fastboot.

Just to simplify and clarify (sorry Dave):
When you do as Dave said (press/hold both power & vol+) you should see 3 icons: an Android, a Box with an arrow (recovery), and a USB sign (fastboot).

If the screen doesn't look like this:

..then as dalepl said, no, back to Toshiba it needs to go....

The OP was hoping to copy files over from his device before having to send it in. Which is doable with fastboot (ADB access). I don't think MTP will work in standard recovery mode, so the user is out-of-luck retrieving his files on the device.

No, I don't have fastboot, just recovery and normal. I suppose the next step is damage control. If I reinstall/set to factory settings, can I plug it into my computer and use a file recovery tool (like recuva) to get most of my photos and videos?
That is to say, how destructive is the factory recovery?

Totally destructive. It's like formatting a had drive and then reinstalling the OS, or a factory install disk.
Found my signature file, but it appears to be empty...
