Smile problems when turn thrive on

Merry Christmas to everyone. Haven't posted in awhile.

When I turn my thrive on, it seems it take so long before I can start clicking on anything, might get a message, launcher isn't responding or will try my email, its not responding.
Seems slow and takes awhile sometimes to load anything and hang up it seams.

My thrive is not rooted. Just like it came.

Any suggestions on why its doing this and what I can do, without starting over. I am tech challenged. So nothing to difficult, please. :-)

    Thanks.

Try clearing cache through recovery :*
    Power Down
Hold Volume + rocker and press power button
Navigate with the volume rocker and select with the power button
Select the Icon with the Arrow coming out of the Box
    Select Wipe Cache Partition
    Select Reboot
    *
If that doesn't cure it, Starting over is the quickest and simplest.

The volume switch is the "rocker".
Found my signature file, but it appears to be empty...

    Glad we could help...

    To factory reset

    Turn off tablet
Press and hold the "+" on the volume key
While continuing to hold the "+" volume key, press and hold the power button
Tablet will start (and let go of both buttons at this time) and show Icons.*
Using the volume key, select the middle Icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it.*
The power button is used as the "enter" key
On the next screen, arrow down to the wipe data/user info clean and factory default and hit the power button.
    * PLEASE NOTE, THIS WILL WIPE OUT ALL SETTINGS AND INFORMATION YOU HAD ON THE TABLET.
On the next screen, select Yes for wiping all info and restore to factory.
Once this is done, select reboot and you will be brought to the initial set up.

If the thrive has not been on for some time, it is checking everything under the sun for updates, apps, email, loading this and that. I find I can't do anything for at least 15 minutes before it satisfies itself, if there are a number of apps to auto update you can forget doing anything for 30 minutes.

Is there difference in doing this then clicking on factory reset in settings?
