I believe you can. There were some other posts here about it. If you get a 19v charger with capability for 1.58 amps, you should be good to go, as long as ou get the right tip. Many of the universal chargers have a variety of tips that come with them.

IIRC, the tip matches one of the HP products out on the market.

We're happy to try to answer any questions you have.

The crucial part is that the charger puts out exactly 19 volts. You don't want more, and you don't want less. The charger needs to put out at least 1.58 amps. It's ok if it can put out more amps, because the Thrive will only pull 1.58. Think of it as someone who can deadlift 300 pounds. It's ok if he deadlifts 200 pounds, because it doesn't use all his strength, but a person's muscles will blow if he can deadlift only 200 pounds and tries to do 300.

And of course, the charger tip must be a physical fit.

The Toshiba charger has a rated output of 19v/1.58A (30W) and uses a straight 4.0mm OD/1.7mm ID connector.
I've been using an aftermarket unit by CBD that is rated 19v/2.1A (40W) with a 90 deg angled 4.0mm/1.7mm connector.
Both were made in China and either would work fine.
I like the 90 deg connector as it doesn't stick out so far.
The CBD charger was $8 on ebay.

Just got a couple of OEM Toshiba 10" Thrive Portfolio PA3945U-1EA cases for $3.99 + $5.49 shipping on Amazon.
There are some left, look under the description for "10 new from $3.99".

I packed for a move and found some still in a box! Even the old Bobj case. Man, that was bulky but very effective
