    High Privilege Mode - vulnerable?

Thanks to dalelp my rooted thrive ia awesome again. After nearly two months actively using my tablet, AVG Antivirus Pro detected a 'threat' with a message my system was running in high privilege mode. So after two months AVG program finally figured out my tablet was rooted. Now I question how effective AVG app is. Being a noob, is this anything to be concerned about? Is there a more effective antivirus ap out there...

Not sure about AVG on the tablet, but AVG is an alright free antivirus and does the job. For my Thrive, I used to use avast, and it had a root installation option if you wanted it. Now I use Lookout, which is also free, and comes with a great feature of locating the tablet. Also use it on my S3. In terms of effectiveness in detecting actual threats, I'm sure someone with more expertise in this field can chime in.

Thanks for the input. AVG Antivirus Pro seems to be adequate I was a little surprised after running roted for a couple of months AVG finally recignized I'm rooted. Seems more and more apps are recognizing a rooted system and either malfunction or deny access... The AVG Pro offers a nice lock down/swipe with tablet theft.

Re: High Privilege Mode - vulnerable?

Generally speaking being rooted does pose a security risk, especially if you're prone to just hitting accept on prompts, same as any other OS, be is windows or linux or android. However, a root exploit available without being rooted is a bigger one, as its never going to ask, just do it.

The security of an OS is more dependant on the user then OS in most cases. Keeping it updated and paying attention are the best things to keep your device safe, not relying on an app to guess at threats.

One of the better reasons to use Avast is because if you are rooted it gives you a firewall ....which you can block apps from calling home...
