Great question. Oddly enough, there has been no mention of an external battery charger.

Obviously no word on any accessories like this as of yet, but I would add this. I noted in the user guide that the unit will not charge during full power conditions since all the power will go towards running the tablet. This means, without an external charger, appropriate planning would be necessary to bring two batteries up to full charge. Not a big deal for me since most applications where I'd need that much battery life (e.g. international travel), I'd have plenty of notice.

The dock's documentation isn't specific. Page 107 of the user guide states, "the battery does not charge while the device is consuming full power." Read to the letter, this would imply that any available surplus power would go towards charging the battery. I would anticipate there is no difference between the dock's DC power and the standard charger's DC power, although the dock specification sheet isn't specific about voltage or amperage on the DC side.

The dock requires the use of the AC adapter/charger that comes with the Thrive (the dock has the same charge port as the Thrive).

Li-Ion battery powered devices employ "smart chargers" and/or "smart batteries" that monitor things like battery voltage, battery charge current and even battery temperature.

When the device is powered on and charging the battery at the same time strange things can, and I say can, happen to to the way the battery is charged.

Rule of thumb - The best way to charge a Li-Ion battery is to turn off the device while charging the battery.

One thing occurs to me...in all the videos, the lady says "you can put in a second battery or swap them out". Maybe it's just terminology, but...could it charge a second battery concurrently?
