Yes, this is pretty outrageous. It's not like this system is cheap to start with, and I just a few weeks ago bought the app. Now I have to shell out another $30. What a rip.

It's a much better app than the phone version at least. The video quality is superior, there's the built-in TV guide, gestures for changing channels and a great on screen remote. It's like they ported the PC app to the Tablet but improved on that too. While people may have gotten using to just being able to get the Tablet version free or re-use apps across devices, may iPhone / iPad apps are sold separately as well. Remote commands are still somewhat laggy but that's been common their clients no matter what the platform.

Thanks, epakrat. It's good to know that it's probably worth the upgrade. Still, be nice if they extended some kind of olive branch, be that an introductory discount or a discount for existing users...something. To essentially go in $60 for one app is a bit steep.

I have the Slingbox Pro (Non-HD) and it does not work.
    The Compatible boxes are the
    - SOLO
    - PRO-HD

    From there site
"Will SlingPlayer for Android Tablets work with my Slingbox?

    • SlingPlayer for Android Tablets will only work with the Slingbox PRO-HD or the Slingbox SOLO. If you have an older Slingbox, you need to upgrade before using this application."

I just ordered my Slingbox Pro HD from Woot® : One Day, One Deal, and I have one question that no one has addressed here yet. Will the slingplayer mobile app work well while connected to a TV via the Thrive's HDMI cable? I plan to use this in hotels when I'm traveling to still be able to watch the Steelers/Penguins/Pirates games, and see my DVR'd programs from home.

Unless you stay at a good Hotel my most don`t have HDMI inputs !...
I can hook mine up to my TV at home with no problem.

As far as Wifi etc I can watch my slingplayer all day long at home but not when I travel unless i hook it up to a good WiFi then it is not the best...
If i knew before spending a lot of money on the slingplayer and Boxes (I have 2 ) I would not have done it.

The majority of hotels I stay in for business do have HDMI ports on the TV's (except the Crowne Plaza in Silver Springs, MD). I did notice that I had issues with bad wifi connections though. I could usually get my slingbox pro-hd connected in SD mode only, but that's better than not being able to watch at all.
