I use a Stanley 100w power inverter when we go camping and never had an issue with overheating or blowing anything up. A friend of mine uses a Powerline Powercup which has 2 plugs and a usb and it sits in the cupholder which is a nice touch.

you should be just fine using an inverter and the AC power supply.

I bought an Auto/Air Inverter a few years back for an overseas trip with plans on using it on the plane but haven't used it since. I was wondering if anyone could confirm or not if it would be acceptable to use to power up my Thrive while on the road. Thanks.

I see no reason why it wouldn't work. If you're concerned about it's age, plug the Thrive's power adapter in for awhile by itself to see if there is any excessive heat buildup. Then plug in the Thrive and check again. FWIW, I'd use it, I've had 5-6 different ones over the years.

    Cheers, Dave

Thanks for the prompt response. I'll do the preliminary testing as suggested first and go from there. Just happy I won't have to buy another inverter to continue my on-the-go fun.

Looks like a nice power supply. I was going to order the Stanley but decided not to because I already have one stashed away I forgot I actually had that will work by Power Gear continuous 90watt which I did try out and it did work on the tablet.

I just found and ordered this from Amazon ...

GPK 30W Auto Adapter for Toshiba Thrive Tablets

    cost was 16.90 + 4.95 shipping.

    Here's the link ...

I was planning to use a DC-AC inverter but this looks pretty good with less wires running about in the car. Will report back when I receive it.

    Cheers!

Device came in last week. Have had a chance to use it several times in the vehicle. I give it 5 stars. does exactly what it is supposed to do and does it efficiently. Would recommend.

Powers & Charges USB Powered Devices
    • Charges All Devices That Take 2.1 Amp
    • Power Indicator LED & Flip Out AC Plug
    • LED Lights Up When Plugged Into DC Port
    • Compact for Easy Portability & Travel
    • Compact & Fits Any Standard Car Outlet
    • Includes 36" USB to Micro/Mini USB Cable
    • DC 12 - 14 V Power Input
    • DC 5 V / 2.1 Amp Output
    • Use with Smartphones, MP3 Players & More
I bought it thinking I'll return it if it doesn't charge correctly, but don't want to mess with taking it out of the box and maybe it not working right undoing the packaging. Do you think this charger is compatible. Paid 7.00 for it.
    thanks for the tip
