I checked amazon and it doesn't seem too bad from them. About 16 bucks for an 8 ft roll.

In person the effect is that convincing. It is hard to see in the pictures, the effect is in the texture of the vinyl. It is solid color with no printing. all other carbon look films made by printing a patern on gloss film. Not convincing close up.

Here you go. I wonder how much it would cost to carbon fibre my wife's beetle?

Yeah I just was going through my wish list and looked. It's not an 8 ft roll either. Only 12" by 5 ft. My bad. I may give it a try just to experiment with.

Woot! The backplate arrived safe and sound! Glad to see that! (I was worried/paranoid that it might break in the mail... I've heard horror stories, haha...)

You did a fantastic job Friz, and I give you kudos for attempting what you did. I understand how you felt when you cringed at what you were about to do, lol... I woulda been the same way, except if I did this, it wouldn't have looked as nice, I'm sure.

    Cheers, mate!

Thanks Derek, and thanks again for your generous donation of the back.

I have started using this as my standard back. I honestly thought it would just be a novelty, but the thrive has a different feel with it. Feels a little lighter and thinner. I could just be mental. I have also changed to a carbon look wallpaper to complete the whole carbon theme.
