Question Australian Toshiba AT100 ICS 4.04 upgrade - Some Problems

I received my ICS 4.04 upgrade on September 1st. Thank you Toshiba. It looked for a while aussies wouldn't get it -
the tablet is not known as Thrive here for some reason. I don't know if there is any difference.
Firstly, I am visually impaired so forgive me if any existing topics already cover the following...

Notes: The device isn't rooted but I would like to do that eventually. I'm not liking the free range
abuse of my privacy that apps may or may not get away with. Anyhow, that's another discussion

    1. I use TTS extensively as I have difficulty reading the screen.
I use dark themes in apps whenever possible.

I use IVONA TTS with the Australian voice. On power-up, I have to re-enable the TTS every time.
On Honeycombe 3.21, the setting stuck. In ICS, it doesn't. I'm, yet to try a re-install of the TTS engine
to see if that fixes it.

    2. The USB to PC via cable no longer works as it did in Honeycombe. The Windows Vista PC reports 'Found
new hardware - search for drivers. Nope, none found. Drivers were never needed before. Before it is said,
no - nothing is wrong on the PC end. I am quite technically proficient in that respect.

What I have tried on the tablet in settings was Settings > Storage > USB computer connection -
Media device(MTP) or Camera (PTP). Neither of those work.

For the time bing, I'm using AIRDROID for transfers, but I would like the USB functionality.

Any suggestions? Or is this a known bug.

    Regards

I have not heard of anyone having these issues. What I would recommend is doing a factory reset on the device. Then set it up, but do not allow Google to restore your data. Once it is setup, loas the TTS engine and see if it works as it should. Also check that the Thrive will connect to the PC. Once this is verified, reload your apps a few at a time to be sure there is no issue wuth any of the apps and ICS. Most issues can be resolved with a full reset. Theis will clear out any settings you had with HC.

Thank you for your prompt response dalepl.

I will try that. I have no data backed up with Google. My personal choice is to have it backed up on the PC I suspect now that an OS upgrade
such as from Vista to Win 7 on a PC would have similar issues so your suggestion makes perfect sense.

I'll settle in with a pot of coffee and see how it goes and report back about the outcome.

    Thanks again

I am having the same issue and before the update it was registering in My Computer - Other - AT100 and now after the up date it is asking for the MTP drivers but i found out while it was still pluged in I turned off the USB debugging mode and now it sees it. I hope anyone else having this issue finds out if this works for you.

    Hi again

No, USB debugging is off. It makes no difference whether on or off.

I have concluded that the problem is at the PC end. Somewhere along the way, I must have broken the Vista MTP support which seems to be associated with Windows Media Player which I detest. Seeing that WMP10 is supposed to fix the issue according to my research, it is not an easy mateer to restore the functionality of MTP in Vista once it has been broken.

I did however also try, for the information of interested parties, to install the Android SDK and then installed Googles USB drivers with it.

    That also didn't work.

The tablet connects fine to a Windows 7 computer so it seems I'll have to bite the bullet and upgrade the PC.

Many thanks for the interest shown by responders. Your input has been appreciated.

P.S. Look for my next issue - anoter toughie. Broken apk install -> another thread

Re: Australian Toshiba AT100 ICS 4.04 upgrade - Some Problems

If I recall correctly, the trick was to use the bootloader from the Aussie HC ROM with the US ICS ROM.

I got the 4.04 upgrade OTA via the Toshiba Service station app.

This link looks like the US update, but you are better off asking the more technical folks about this.

Here's a screenshot of my Australin Thrive AT100 'About Tablet' screen which might help working out what differences between US and Australian Versions of ICS.

EDIT: This thread in the Australian Whirlpool forum may be of interest, but once again, the tech guys in here, not there, are the best ones to ask.

Well the prob i had was that the ICS update never showed up in the update center for me on both my AT100 tablets just the file manager update and that's it! LMAO

I am keeping one stock with 3.2.1 since no updates for it
and other is being fixed from a failed ICS update and no CWM on it
