i apologize for the late reply but i think i figured it out. i was using a micro sd card inside an sd adapter. i bought a full size sd card and installed and immediately worked. I dont know if it was the micro sd, but it now works, hope this helps somebody else. And thanks for everyones input. i guess better late than never.

I had the exact same problem. I had been using a 16GB class 10 micro SD card in an SD adapter. It worked great, but I wanted more space. I next went to a 32GB class 4 SD card in an SD adapter, I could copy files to it, but CWM would not do a backup. I traded that in on a class 10 card and life is good now.

All the class 10 cards I tried worked, class 4 cards I tried would work for most things, but not CWM.

I have used both class 4 and 10 in 32GB full size SD cards for CWM backup with no issues, the class 4 was slower though, but it did backup without error.

I just found this thread. I'm having the same issue. I have a SanDisk 16gb SDcard class 6. CWM full back to SDcard always stuck on backing up system image. I tried it on internal memory and it works. Does this mean it is a SDcard problem? I figure I can manually copy the CWM backup folder to SD but that didn't work. Some of the system files wouldn't copy over. Any ideas? Thanks.

If the card is not formatted as FAT32, CWM will not work with the card as exFAT is not supported.

The Sandisk 16gb class 6 card was formated to Fat32. Dalepl on another thread suggested that I try independant format programs to format the card because some people have issues with windows formatter. I'll try that tonight.
