Help! Thrive not detected by Windows via USB

My girlfriend and I both recently bought Thrives. I got the 32g version and she got the 16. Both were having problems updating from the .018 version so for mine I followed instructions on rooting it and flashing a new rom to it. This worked great on mine, and I now have Android 3.2 running on it flawlessly.

I tried the same exact steps on my girlfriend's Thrive. After rooting it, which worked successfully but broke the wifi (which happened on mine as well), I tried to go forward with flashing ClockWorkMod Recovery onto it, only to discover that now the device isn't getting detected by Windows. USB debugging is definitely turned on. The Flash Tool keeps saying waiting for device. So, I tried doing a factory reset on it and now it isn't rooted anymore, but the wifi is still broken and I still can't connect via USB. I'm now at a loss and I want to avoid having to send it off to get fixed. What can I do?

Edit: I should also mention that I am still able to connect via USB with my tablet, so it can't be the Windows side of it causing the problem.

I wish I could tell you. My Windows machine will not talk to my Thrive. Any of them. I have to use my wifes laptop. When you say yours will still talk to the PC, what are you doing to verify this?

I am booting the device into fastboot and attaching the usb cable. Again, though, this did work for the very first step (rooting the device) and after that it did not. Also, when the device is booted into the OS, I see it in the devices on my Windows box (the non-broken one).

I have both a Mac and a Linux box available, though, if you have any instructions for using either of those.

Even if you can see the device, it does not mean the ADB drivers will work correctly. I can see all of my three devices on my PC, but I cannot get ADB to talk to it in fastboot. As for Linux, no I do not have steps for Linux. I do not have enough experience with Linux. I do plan to setup a boot partition on my PC to Linux, so after that I might can setup something.

Well, like I said I went through the entire process just fine on my Thrive. it's not detecting my girlfriend's at all even though it did on the first step.

I can take pictures of both connected at FastBoot to show you the difference.

I think I will need to try things out on my wifes laptop to see if there is anything that would keep different devices from working.
