Here is an animation I made quite a while back for my Samsung Vibrant. I scaled it up to fit the thrive a bit better. Let me know if you like it or have any suggestions for improvements.
Just add this bootanimation.zip to the correct location in dalepl's update.zip file and flash away, or use root explorer to backup the old bootanimation.zip file and place this one in system/media and set the permissions to match the original file.

    animation speed

Why does desc.txt have the line 800 1280 200? Isn't 200 then the requested frames per second? Whenever I try to slow down the animation using difrferent values I only get a blank (black) boot uo screen. Any suggestions?

Make sure you zip the bootanimation.zip file as "store" for the compression method when you zip it back up. Even if you just open the zip and have a look inside you will have to zip it up again using "store" or your boot animation will be a black screen.

In your prop. Build file it has a spot for rotating the boot animation. You need to do that. If it is in vertical mode change the properties to 270 and it will run in horizontal.

go to /system/build.prop and add this: ro.bootanim.hwrotation=270

nvm.. does not work hmm.... we could just flip all the pictures.
