The issue is the partitioning as well.
That's why the reflash is needed, if I understand dalepl's explanation correctly.

    No way no how!
PM dalelp and have him roll you back. It will unleash the power of your Thrive! I did it after many months on the stock ics. Am a happy camper now.

[Tool] DaleNet Thrive Univeral Easy Flash Tool

Read, understand, and follow the instructions in the OP EXACTLY, and all should be well.
Once rooted, most non-essential "crap" can be uninstalled.

Hi Klarpsnarkle, rooting by itself won't change the build or kernel on your device. You can use free apps to check root. The Google Play Store doesn't allow apps that actually root, but it has a number of apps like Root Checker which tell you if you're rooted.

Do a clean install of the following ROOTED ROM following the instructions provided in the link below.

[ROM] DaleNet IMM76D.01.000072314 Deodexed Stock Rooted ROM (US ICS 4.0.4)

And then download 'Terminal Emulator' open it and type su.
A message will pop up to allow super user, click on allow.
The prompt will change from $ sign to # sign.
That is it. You have a rooted thrive.
You will be able to run programs like ROM Manager, ROM Installer, TWRP Manager etc. with root access.

    My bad........

It is my bad....... that I responded to a very old - 2 year old - post.
Neither I looked at the post date, nor read through the end before responding.
I think, I will need sometime to get used to the forum.
