[root tool] Toshiba Thrive ICS 4.0.4 root tool

I am releasing this to the world. Well, I already have, but....

This will root your Toshiba Thrive 10. It will do little on other devices, possibly bad things. DO NOT RUN ON OTHER DEVICES!
(Seriously, it will run on Thrive 7 and any Excite, but every other device uses a different bootloader, and it uses Thrive-only directories. So, yes, it will run, but that does not mean it will root it! I cannot empasize it enough!)

    The process is pretty straightforward.
    • Make sure USB Debugging is enabled. It's under Settings -> Development Options.
    • Make sure ADB drivers are installed. If not, use the Batfish link in the second post.
    • Run the tool. Click "Restore" when prompted; it's going to be in the bottom-right corner. Let it do its work.
Enjoy seeing how much sealime was slowing down your system.
Feel free to flash any of the other awesome ROMS by anyone on this site.

Note that the author is no longer developing and this tool is no longer supported.

Use dalepl's Universal Easy Flash Tool.

    FAQ:

Oh no! My tablet is restarting every half-to-whole minute, or whenever I touch it!
Open up a prompt to the roottool directory, and run "adb shell rm /data/local.prop". (Note: we need to just create a script to not need navigation.)

I tried running, but I'm stuck at the "Missing ADB drivers" screen?
Use BatFish's Toshiba Universal ADB driver. Also, do you have USB debugging enabled, like was mentioned in the script?

Anything specific I need to do if I'm running Windows 8?\
Actually, yes. First, you need to run this, THEN install the ADB drivers. Then you can run it.

Restore screen didn't appear on my screen?
Close out of prompt, and try running again.

Do I need to install anything before I run?
Other than the ADB drivers? Nope, it's an all-inclusive .zip.

    Which script do I run?
If you're on Windows, rootme.bat. Linux and eventually MacOS, rootme.sh

Will there ever be a NoPC version?
Unfortunately, no. The tablet becomes so unstable graphically, that navigating it becomes impossible.

If I found a bug in the script, where should I go?
GitHub Issues is preferred, as it is easily managed, but if you don't have an account, posting here works. I get an email either way

Who all was involved in this?
    Me (of course )
Pio_Masaki for coming up with the general idea of the exploit
indest for hosting the wiki (will bring wiki link back when he comes back........ . . . . )
    dalepl for providing rooted boot.img
tybar/TurnYourBackAndRun's script was its original basis. He also provided unlocked bootloader.
mpop for porting the .bat to .sh a while ago.

well guess I'm first (sort of)! My first root ever, used this tool on my 10" thrive with ICS. No problems at all very simple. If I understand everything I've read I verified superuser access using step 11 in dalepl's thread:

[ROM] DaleNet IMM76D.01.000072314 Deodexed Stock Rooted ROM (US ICS 4.0.4)

with no failures! Now off to install the ROM. Thanks to everyone for this tool works great!!

Thanks for a great tool to everyone that had a hand in this project, worked great, very smooth. The only thing I can contribute for the next user is "any key" is "Any key" except for the space bar, sat there for a few minutes before I realized nothing is happening. Always wanted to root but didn't want to take up the time of those who offered to help after I was too stupid to not install the OTA ICE update.

The process took about 12 minutes start to finish even with my wait for a minute or two with the any key.

Again, thanks, now I guess I have to think about those great ROMs.

I've been away for what seems like forever, return to see what's new and find this great tool. You guys are the best, can't thank you enough. It worked flawlessly so now after all the years my TT is finally rooted. I'm a happy camper again
